KMS Server Unavailable
Windows could not contact a Key Management Service (KMS) host. The machine is looking for a corporate KMS server that is not reachable.
1
Set KMS host manually
Open elevated CMD and run: slmgr /skms kms.windowskms.com
2
Apply activation
Run slmgr /ato immediately after.
3
Use KMSPico (easier)
KMSPico configures the KMS host automatically — no manual command entry needed. Download from this site and run as administrator.
4
Verify
Run slmgr /xpr to confirm a valid activation.
Reset License with slmgr
Run these commands in an elevated Command Prompt (right-click → Run as administrator):
> slmgr /rearm
> slmgr /ato
> slmgr /xpr
What error 0xC004F074 actually means
0xC004F074 means Windows tried to activate against a Key Management Service (KMS) host and couldn't reach one. Windows volume editions expect to check in with a KMS server on the network; when no host answers within the timeout, activation stops and returns this code. It is a connectivity error, not a problem with your Windows install — which is good news, because it's one of the quickest to fix.
What triggers it
No KMS host is configured, or the configured host address is wrong or offline.
A firewall or antivirus is blocking the activation request (KMS uses TCP port 1688).
The PC was set up with a volume/GVLK key but never pointed at a working KMS service.
A previous activation tool was removed and left Windows looking for a host that no longer exists.
The reliable fix
The steps above set a reachable KMS host and re-apply activation. The simplest route is to let KMSPico configure the local KMS service for you — it stands up a host on your own PC, so there's nothing remote to reach and the error disappears in one run. If you prefer the manual path, the slmgr /skms + slmgr /ato sequence does the same thing by hand.
Seeing a different code? 0x8007232B (DNS name does not exist) and 0xC004F210 (edition mismatch) are closely related — our troubleshooting hub lists a fix for each.

Yes. In most cases this error is fixable without reinstalling Windows by running the appropriate slmgr commands or downloading a fresh KMS activation package.
Yes. KMSPico resets the license state and applies a fresh KMS activation, which resolves most Windows activation errors including this one.
