Which Office versions can be activated this way

KMS activation works only with the Volume Licence (VL) builds of Office — Office 2016, 2019, 2021, and the LTSC/2024 editions, plus the volume edition of Microsoft 365 Apps. It does not work on the consumer "Click-to-Run" retail copies that come tied to a Microsoft account, or on the personal Microsoft 365 subscription. If your Office was bought from the Microsoft Store or a retail card, KMS won't apply; you'd need to convert it to a volume build first. This is the single most common reason Office activation "fails" — the edition simply isn't KMS-eligible.

How Office activation differs from Windows

Office uses its own activation script, ospp.vbs, rather than slmgr. KMSPico handles this for you, but the manual commands above let you see exactly what happens: install the GVLK, point Office at the local KMS service, and trigger activation. Like Windows, Office KMS activation is valid for 180 days and renews automatically in the background, so you won't see the yellow "Product Notice" bar or the greyed-out editing restrictions that appear on unlicensed Office.

Activate Windows and Office together

You don't need to run KMSPico twice. When you activate Windows 10 or Windows 11 with KMSPico, any KMS-eligible Office install on the same PC is activated in the same pass. If Office won't activate

Check three things in order: (1) you have a volume edition, not retail; (2) Windows Defender hasn't quarantined the activator — add an exclusion first; and (3) you ran KMSPico as administrator.
