Upgrading Windows 11 Home to Pro is a two-stage job: switch the edition with Microsoft's generic Pro key, then activate the new Pro installation through KMS. Here is the complete, correct sequence - and the one-click way to handle the activation half.
After the edition upgrade reboots, open an elevated Command Prompt and run:
> slmgr /ipk W269N-WFGWX-YVC9B-4J6C9-T83GX > slmgr /skms kms.windowskms.com > slmgr /ato > slmgr /xpr
Generic upgrade key (edition switch only): VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T · Windows 11 Pro GVLK (for KMS activation): W269N-WFGWX-YVC9B-4J6C9-T83GX
This is the step almost every tutorial garbles. Microsoft's generic Pro key (VK7JG-...) exists for exactly one purpose: telling the edition-upgrade engine to unlock the Pro feature set. It carries no license, so the moment the upgrade finishes, Windows reports itself as unactivated Pro. The second key - the Pro GVLK - is what redirects activation to a Key Management Service. Home edition cannot be KMS-activated at all (no Home GVLK exists), which is why the edition must change first and activation second, never the other way around.
The Home-to-Pro upgrade is an in-place edition switch, not a reinstall: apps, files, accounts and drivers all stay exactly where they were. What changes is the feature set - BitLocker device encryption, Hyper-V, Windows Sandbox, Remote Desktop host, Group Policy editor and domain join all unlock. The process takes one reboot and typically under ten minutes on an SSD.
Two situations trip people up. First, an internet connection during the key entry can make Windows try to validate the generic key against activation servers and reject it - disconnecting Wi-Fi or Ethernet before entering it avoids that. Second, a machine with a digital Home license linked to a Microsoft account may try to revert after activation; signing in after the Pro upgrade completes, rather than before, keeps the edition where you put it. If the upgrade stalls or errors out, DISM /Online /Set-Edition:Professional /ProductKey:VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T /AcceptEula performs the same switch from an elevated prompt.
Once the machine is running Pro, the activation half collapses to a single step: KMSPico installs the correct Pro volume key, points Windows at its local KMS host and completes activation in one run - and if Office is installed, it activates that in the same pass. No elevated prompt, no 25-character keys to transcribe, no host configuration. If your antivirus objects, that is the standard false positive every KMS utility receives; the build on this site is verified clean.
KMSPico applies the correct Pro GVLK, configures the local KMS host and activates Windows 11 Pro (plus Office) automatically - no commands needed.
Download KMSPico FreeCheck where you are starting from: slmgr /dli before you begin names the current edition and channel, so you know whether you are on Home retail, Home OEM, or already on Pro and chasing the wrong problem entirely.
OEM Home machines upgrade cleanly. The embedded firmware key only matters for Home; after the edition switch, Windows ignores it and follows whatever licensing path you set up for Pro - KMS included.
The upgrade key is publicly documented by Microsoft itself in its generic-keys guidance. It is not a crack and not edition-specific to any language or region - the same key works on every Windows 11 Home build that supports edition upgrade.
Feature updates behave normally afterwards. A machine upgraded Home-to-Pro receives the same cumulative and feature updates as factory Pro, and KMS activation survives them because the licensing channel and edition no longer change.
If you ever need to go back, a clean Home install will pick up the original OEM or digital license automatically - the Pro upgrade does not consume or damage the entitlement the machine shipped with.
And remember the order of operations that makes this painless: edition first, activation second. Every failed "Home to Pro KMS" attempt on a forum somewhere traces back to someone trying to KMS-activate Home, or entering the GVLK before the edition had finished changing.
Download the verified release and start activating Windows or Office in seconds.
